Our Approach

The first step of every Amicus relationship is a thorough review of your law school application materials. Through this review, we evaluate how to best position your written materials relative to your application as a whole. We want your writing to make your application shine, and we can best do that once we have a sense of you and how you will present on paper.

Following that comprehensive review, our process is highly individualized. As you’ll see from our Services, we tailor our services to meet your budget and desires. For those who are struggling with what to focus on, we help think through the features of the law school application that are obvious and those that should be brought to the fore through written materials, as well as how to structure a compelling story supporting that strategy.

Once you have an approach locked down, we then refine draft materials. While some clients produce a robust full draft, others send us a more skeletal outline. In either case, we provide detailed commentary on how to elevate your statement, bringing out your distinct story in a way that emphasizes how you will contribute to the legal profession. With our combined expertise in storytelling, argumentative writing, and how law schools are looking to fill their classes, we excel at helping you craft compelling narratives that ring true to your story and goals.

The Feedback You’ll Receive

Our commentary occurs at three levels: in-text edits, marginal notes, and a summary comment. Our in-text edits correct detail-oriented issues with syntax, grammar, or clarity, while our marginal notes provide feedback at the paragraph level, advising on how you might best structure or orient your argument. The summary note reiterates the main points of our feedback, underscoring both the areas of your essay that already shine and the places where most work is needed. While we certainly do not dictate the exact edits you need to make, we take pride in providing actionable feedback. This means that we will often offer a menu of options about how you might best approach specific revisions. At this stage, both Scott and Katie will have reviewed your written materials, bringing their specialized knowledge to bear on your application. The result? Suggestions that will help you create a law school application that appeals to diverse readers.

Once you have our written feedback in hand, even our most basic package offers a 30-minute meeting with either Scott or Katie. This meeting can be used however you like. Most clients come to the meeting having revised their writing in light of our feedback, ready to ask questions about the areas they want a second round of feedback on. By meeting with you after you’ve received our feedback, we ensure that you feel confident about implementing our suggestions. Our goal is for every Amicus client to conclude our work together feeling excited to submit their law school application.
